The Armstead Family Receives an Accessible SUV
On Tuesday, October 20th, the Armstead family of Indianapolis received a wheelchair-accessible Chevrolet Traverse as part of our 16th Annual Van Giveaway — presented alongside Keller Cares, the community outreach program of Keller & Keller Injury Lawyers, at their Indianapolis headquarters.
Pri and Roberto Armstead are raising two sons, Avian and Avi. Both boys are nonverbal, and Avi has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. For a family in that situation, the right vehicle shapes an ordinary week: how everyone travels together, what equipment comes along, and whether a medical appointment is a logistical problem or simply something you drive to. The accessible Traverse will carry the Armsteads to appointments, errands and days out — the kind of use that doesn't make headlines and matters every single day.
They thought they were coming back for a second interview
Our board had already chosen the Armsteads. Keeping that quiet took a little staging.
The family were invited to Keller & Keller's office believing they had a second interview to get through. The firm's entire headquarters staff was there, along with members of our board. A taco truck parked outside gave everyone a reason to be standing around in the open air without giving the game away. CBS4 and Indy Now were on hand to film.
James Keller — managing partner at Keller & Keller and a member of the Samantha's House board — then told Pri and Roberto there was no second interview. The decision had been made some time ago. They had been asked back so the vehicle could be handed over in person, in front of the people who made it possible.
Congratulations to the whole Armstead family.
What makes a giveaway like this possible
Every accessible vehicle we provide traces back to the annual golf outing. Golfers, sponsors, volunteers and donors fund it between them, and the giveaway is what that year's support turns into.
"We support Samantha's House because it's a core pillar of culture at Keller & Keller. Giving back to our community and helping others helps make us a better law firm, and strengthens our commitment to the belief that our communities matter and the people in them matter."
— James Keller, Managing Partner, Keller & Keller Injury Lawyers
Our thanks to the board for the work behind this year's event, to everyone who played in or sponsored the golf outing, to the Keller & Keller team for turning out, and to CBS4 and Indy Now for helping share the story. Keller Cares covered the day as well.
And to Pri and Roberto — thank you for coming back for that "second interview", and for letting everyone meet Avian and Avi. We hope the Traverse serves your family well for years to come.
